ITS Netherlands

ITS Netherlands, a co-operation organisation, fills the need for structural and action-based consultation between the main parties concerned, focusing on current ITS issues and subject areas. ITS Netherlands was established in 1996 and in 1999, together with CTT and PB-IVVS, it was linked as programme to Connekt.

What is ITS?
Intelligent Transport Systems or Services (ITS) is the international collective name for the application of different technologies relating to traffic and transport to make systems safer, more efficient, more reliable and environmentally-friendly without necessarily changing the physical infrastructure.

ITS makes use of the possibilities of measuring and control technology, information and communication technology (ICT). ITS looks beyond technology, it focuses on the implementation and organisation whereby research questions that can accelerate and upscale the process need to be answered.

ITS is a growing world-wide phenomenon that meets both public and private needs. ITS, for example, makes it possible to enforce government regulations more efficiently, to achieve a higher-quality utilisation, to improve safety and is also a carrier of instruments like information, reservation, control and pricing of mobility.
